dc.description.abstract Vol. 1 contains twenty-seven short odes by Thomas Stanley, based on chapters 1-26 and 28 of the "Eikon basilike", the authorship of which was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 125-33) was written by John Gauden, who probably included some authentic writings of the king. ; vols. 2-5 contain Stanley's odes set to music by John Wilson. Signatures: A-N² ; pi² a1 A-O² ; pi² a1 L-2A² ; pi² a1 X-2L² ; pi² a1 B-K² . Leaf "a" in vols. 2-5 contains a dedication to John Wilson, signed: Henry Lawes. The title pages to vols. 2-5 are in the same setting as the title of vol. 1, but for the Scriptural quotation is substituted: Set to musick for 3 voices and an organ, or theorbo, by John Wilson Dr. and musick professor of Oxford. Variant: with an unsigned leaf in vol. 2 containing an address by Wilson signed: I.W. Reproduction of the original in the British Library.
