This transcription  is a transcription of the microfilm of the
British Library's  copy of  the first  English edition  of the
_Strange Case_(written  September-October 1885),  published by
Longmans, Green  & Co.  on 9  January 1886 (the first American
edition, published  5 January  1886 was  set up from Longmans'
sheets and introduces a few new compositional errors).

The text has been prepared for the following publication:
Dury, Richard  (1993). _The  Annotated Dr  Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
'Strange case  of Dr  Jekyll and  Mr  Hyde'  by  Robert  Louis
Stevenson. Edited  with an  Introduction  and  Notes.  Milano:

The text here introduces a number of small changes to the text
of the first edition:
