Londons Complaint and Lamentation,

Oxford should keep in subjugation

Sweet Charlemaine, our Sovereigne King,

Which all our discontentments bring.
VVHy should Proud Oxford thus our KING with-hold
From his grave PARLIAMENT, and be so bold
To brave faire London? it is sinne and pity
That such a Towne should front this Famous City.
Shall Oxford in defiance keepe our KING,
To make faire London mournfully to sing?
Stand up faire London, thou shalt winne the day,
Thou hast beene humbled, thou dost fast and pray.
Rowse up thy Spirits, be not discontented,
Christ heares thy prayers, he see's thou hast repented:
And he in mercie will to thee incline,
And fight thy Battells, with His Power divine.
Plucke up thy courage, thou shalt prosper well
Against malignant Spirits that rebell:
For shame lift up thy head, be valiant, stout,
Couragious, be to punish Romish Rout.
Let not base feare possesse thy valiant heart,
Nor daunt thy courage, Christ doth take thy part.
HEE will not suffer Oxford to beare sway,
Christ mindefull is of London night and day:
HEE heares the Prayers of such as sigh and mourne,
HEE will our sadnesse into gladnesse turne.
Goe on with speed, to Oxford take your way,
In Christ His NAME, you shall obtaine the day.
Christ will defend us, we on him depend;
HEE will our Valour, Faith, Hope, Love, commend.
Let not our Spirits be possest with slumber,
Let not base cowardize our senses cumber.
Speed on apace, we shall victorious be,
Sticke to Christ Jesus, foule offences flee.
Fight for Christ Jesus, King, and Parliament,
So shall you prosper, to your hearts content.
Oxford is base, to keepe from us our KING,
Which all these sorrowes, discontentments, bring.
Come let us all make haste to Oxford Towne,
To fetch our KING with Honour and Renowne.
Let us no longer passe our time away,
Let us make speed, Christ Jesus winnes the day.
The Pope of Rome, and those that take his part,
Christ Jesus he will wound them to the heart.
Hee'l crush their spirits, plucke their Courage downe,
Come, let us fetch KING CHARLES to London Towne.
Come, let us be couragious, London Boyes,
Fetch home King CHARLES His Babes, our Kingdomes joyes.
Which that we may, with heart and mindes consent,
Christ blesse our Kingdomes KING and PARLIAMENT.

Amen.
