Orders for the Reception of his Royal Highness the Prince of ORANGE agreed upon by the Vice-Chancellor & Delegats, to be communicated to the Heads of Houses, & by them to their respective companies.
1. THAT they admonish all such as are under their charge, that they appear no where abroad, during his Highnesses [...]ode in the University, without their Caps and Gowns suitable to their Degree and Condition; and that their Apparel be such as the Statutes require.
2. That no Scholar of what Condition soever shall presume to go out to meet the Prince, either on Foot, or on Horsback; or to be at, or upon the way, where the Prince is to come; but shall attend in that Place, and Posture, in which he shall be required to be, upon notice from his Superiors.
3. That no Scholar come into the Prince his Presence, or near any of his Offices, as his Kitchen, Buttery, &c. in any Place that he shall Visit, or be Entertained at.
4. That at the ringing of St. Maries great Bell, all Persons, Graduats or others, forthwith repair to St. Maries (The Doctors in their S [...]arlet Gowns and all Graduats in their respective Formalities) and from thence stand in order according to the Seniority of Degrees or Condition, as they shall be directed by the Delegats, and those who have Procuratorial power, along the High-street by Carfax toward Christ Church West Gate (The Noble Men and Doctors standing next to St. Maries South Porch:) and as soon as the Prince and his Train are past, every one immediatly depart to his respective College and Hall; except they shall receive other directions from the Vice-Chancellor or the Delegats.
5. That upon the day when his Royal Highness shall Visit the Schools all persons obey such orders as they shall before receive from their respective Heads of Houses by Order of the Delegats.
6. That during the time of the Convocation all Persons keep their Seats.
It is strictly required that during the time of this solemnity, all persons observe the aforesaid orders, and comport themselves with that sobriety and modesty as may tend to the Reputation and Honor of the University; upon pain of being enter'd into the black-Book, and otherwise proceeded against as the exigence of their faults shall require.
The Professors and Lecturers are desired at the time when the Prince comes to visit the Schools to be ready to read in their respective faculties.
The Doctors are desired during the time of the stay of the Prince, when they come in publick to appear in their Scarlet Gowns.
