The Vow and Covenant appoynted by y e Lords & Commons assembled in Parliament, to be taken by euery man, in y e Cities of London, Westminster, y e Suburbs & liberties thereof; & throughout y e whole Kingdome.
I.A.B. in humility & reverence of y e Diuine maiesty, declare my hearty sorrow for my owne sins, & y e sins of this Nation, which haue deserved y e Calamities & Iudgm ts y t now by upon it, And my true intention is, by God's grace, to endeauour y e amendm t of my own wayes; And y t I do abhor & detest y e ⟨said⟩ wicked & treacherous Designe lately discovered; & y t I neuer gaue, nor will give my assent to y e Execution thereof, but will, according to my power & vocation, oppose & resist y e same, & all other of y e like nature: And in case any other like Designe shall hereaft r come to my knowledge, I will make such timely discouery as I shall conceiue may best conduce to y e preuenting thereof, And whereas I do in my Conscience beleiue, y t y e Forces raised by y e two Houses of Par liam t are raised & continued for their iust defence, & for y e defence of y e true Protestant Religion, & Liberties of y e Subiect, against y e forces raised by y e King: I do, here in y e presence of Almighty God, declare, vow, & Couenant, y t I will, according to my power & vocation, assist y e Forces raised & continued by both Houses of Parliam t, against y e Forces raised by the King without their Consent; And will likewise assist all other persons y t shall take this Oath, in w t they shall do in Pursuance thereof, And will not directly or indirectly adhere unto, nor shall willingly assist y e Forces raised by y e king without y e consent of hoth Houses of Parliam t. And this vow & covenant I make in y e presence of Almighty God, y e Search r of all hearts, w th a true intention to ꝑforme y e same, as I shall answer at y e great day, when y e Secrets of all Hearts shalbe disclosed.
This House doth declare, y t all those that shall not take this Vow, & Covenant, shall forth w th be Disarmed, And no Souldiers entertayn'd, shall receive pay untill they have taken it.
