¶ By the King.
¶ A Proclamation for the ease of the Subiects in making their Compositions for not receiuing the Order of Knighthood, according to the Law.

WHereas Wee haue heretofore granted Our Commission vnder Our Great Seale of England, to sundry of the Lords, and others of Our Priuy Councell, to Treate and Compound with such of Our louing Subiects, as by Law ought to make their Fines with Vs for not making their appearance at the time and place by Our Writts appointed for receiuing the Order of Knighthood, wherein our Commissioners haue so farre proceeded, that many haue Compounded with them, and payd their Fines agreed vpon accordingly, and Wee are resolued constantly to hold the like course with all others, who are lyable by Law to pay the like Fines. Neuerthelesse, because many parts of this Our Kingdome are so remote from Our Citie of London, as the trauaile from thence hither would bee very chargeable and troublesome, and at this time dangerous to draw them from their owne dwellings, to attend their Compositions at Our Cities of London or Westminster: In fauour of Our good & louing Subiects whom it concerneth, Wee haue resolued to send Our Commissions to the seuerall Counties of this Our Realme, to whom they may with more ease and safety repaire for their dispatch. Whereof Wee haue thought fit by these presents to giue notice to all whom it may concerne, hereby letting them know, that if they shall neglect this Our Grace, and not attend Our Commissioners in their seuerall Counties where they dwell, and with them make agreement on Our behalfe, that Wee shall leaue them to the iust proceedings of Our Law, and to that end to attend Our Commissioners at Whitehall, or Our Court of Exchequer, and if it shall so fall out to be more charge or trouble vnto them, they shall haue iust cause to lay the blame vpon themselues, and to acknowledge Our Grace and fauour, if in time it had beene accepted.

God saue the King.
